Urology groups merge, form Physicians Urology

Physicians Urology's Physicians Center for Urologic Health is for men affected by urologic and prostate-related illness.

GREATER AKRON -- Advanced Urology Associates Inc. and Urology Inc. have merged to form Physicians Urology.

The urologists involved in the merger include Dennis Bentley, M.D.; Raymond Bologna, M.D.; Todd Breaux, M.D.; Gregory Danesis, M.D.; Joseph Dankoff, M.D.; Lawrence Geller, M.D.; Howard Minott, M.D.; Bradford Moss, M.D., FACS; Michael Serene, M.D., FACS; Kevin Spear, M.D.; John Wegryn, M.D.; and John Zhao, M.D.

The merger allows the doctors to better focus on   the group's subspecialties, including urologic oncology, female urology (including incontinence and prolapse), laparoscopic and robotic surgery, erectile dysfunction and male infertility. Patients will have access to robotic procedures that enable physicians to perform precise, minimally invasive surgery, which reduces recovery time, complications and hospitalization costs, according to Physicians Urology officials.

"We are now large enough to allow each doctor to devote more time to practicing their particular medical specialty," said Bologna. "This enables our doctors to become highly accomplished in their area of expertise, which provides the opportunity for collaboration to deliver unparalleled treatment."

Physicians Urology also has opened a new comprehensive men's health facility, Physicians Center for Urologic Health (CUH) for men affected by urologic and prostate-related illness. CUH offers intensity-modulated radiation therapy, a precise treatment that minimizes the effects on neighboring structures and tissues, which helps to lower complication rates associated with traditional radiation therapy.

At CUH, a liaison guides each patient and his family through their cancer treatment. The center also offers support groups for patients and their families, and physician-instructed educational programs.

"Men have a one in six chance of developing prostate cancer," Breaux said. "We recognize that this is a highly treatable disease, and the key to successful treatment of prostate cancer is early detection. Our mission is to raise greater awareness and to provide the best treatment options available to our patients."

Physicians Urology has six offices located in Akron, Barberton, Fairlawn, Ravenna, Stow and Wadsworth. For more information, visit www. physiciansurology.com  or call (330) 375-4848.
